Glossary of Second Life Terms

 

Alt--In SL, typically means an alternative account or avatars used for purposes other than the first account.  (For example, MississippiJuniper Bookmite is my alt, while Aevalle Galicia is my main avatar.)

 

Animation--avatar movements found in pose balls or in the avatar's inventory.

 

Attachments--enhancements fixed to the avatar's body

 

Avatar--the physical "makeup" a resident uses to interact through in-world

 

Bebop Reality--Au's description of the SL community's perception of their universe--that its malleable and open to constant improvisation.

 

Beta--software in final steps of testing

 

Bling--term for expensive accessories (jewelry, etc.)

 

Camping Chair--usually indicated by poseballs, these are areas in which residents are paid Linden Dollars in order to sit or do some other activity.  (Plays into the "green dot theory" in which people shown by green dots on the map draw more people to the location, increasing foot traffic.)

 

Furry--resident using anthropomorphic avatars (animals--realistic or cartoon)
